It’s a new month, and I am excited—not just about the new month, but about the year in general. I keep saying there’s something about this year, and if you’re sensitive enough, you’ll notice it and begin to align.
That said, I’m here again with my newsletter. Just like Naira Marley’s trending song says—"I’m Baaaaaccckkkkk.” Lol.
Now, this week, I want to write about someone who has been on my mind for a while now, and that is Cubana Chief Priest.
Personally, I don’t think I like Cubana Chief Priest that much. I don’t hate him; I just find him overbearing—but in a funny way. My dislike isn’t that deep, though. It’s not like I hate him; I just find him amusing. I get the same feeling when I watch Odumeje’s videos. I’m like, “What are you saying, bruhhhhh?”
But then, no matter how I feel about him, there’s something I totally respect about him—actually, two things.
Firstly, I think Cubana Chief Priest is an amazingly loyal friend. He’s the kind of person you want in your corner—fiercely loyal and always ready to fight for you. When I look at his friendship with Davido, all I see is a big-brother kind of relationship.
You see him all around Davido—hovering, protecting, loving, and supporting him. Some might argue that he’s doing all this for money and fame. Well, I’m not going to get into that argument. But even if that’s the case, he has paid it back by being a fiercely loyal friend and supporter.
I daresay that CP has even helped introduce and integrate Davido into the wealthy Igbo men’s community. Now, this statement is debatable because many would say Davido is a big artiste and can enter any clique he wants. But it’s different when you have someone on the inside who lovingly brings you in. It now feels like Davido is a part of them. He married their sister, and they now see him as their own.
Let’s not even begin to talk about the way he loves and protects Chioma, Davido’s wife. It’s just beautiful to see. It might not be so visible to outsiders, but you can see how he plays that big-brother role exceptionally well.
Secondly, I think Cubana Chief Priest is a master at networking. Damn, he totally understands the science of reaching out to people, connecting with them, building trust, and making alliances—even though he has a funny way of going about it. But it works.
CP understands the first rule of networking: you must have something going for yourself. He is not hungry, so no one sees him as a beggar or hanger-on. He also understands the rule of gifting. He knows that giving gifts is a way to people’s hearts. When he gifted Zenco a trailer load of cows, people didn’t understand. But what he was doing was very strategic. He is him.
A mentor of mine once taught me that gift-giving can open doors you never imagined. When I told a friend that I always give my landlord a package every Christmas, he was shocked. It’s not always a lot, but it helps soften hearts and makes everyone happy.
CP is currently the face of that thriving and budding Igbo billionaire community. When you think of rich businessmen from the East, his name, face, and mannerisms come to mind. Now, that is a very strategic man.
I can’t wait to see more of what he has to offer in 2025.
This is filled with lessons for strategic networking. Thank you so much.
Thank you for sharing. I am very poor when it comes to interacting with people. I guess I would give this a try and come back with a feedback soon
